It carries itself on four strong sturdy things
Over plains and meadows, forest deep
Its coat so rough from midday dirt
Its hair so long and tangling as the wind flexes its wispy tendrils
Intelligent eyes stare at the hot summer sun
Ears twitch at the slight sounds
To flee or stay
Only they will tell
It calls to its own with its special words
And follows in tow of leader hierarchy
They sound like thunder when together
Safely nestled as one family
But a hard life it must be
For the wild ones
